i’ve finally stopped procrastinating around on an austudy payment and nabbed myself a job at the local dvd store.. it’s so close to my house i can walk home to check my email in my 30min lunch / dinner break.. so pretty awesome..
it’s a bit boring tho compared to hanging out in the print shop.. and it’s only my first week and i’m already frustrated over things that should be changed in the store to make it better – but i have to keep reminding myself that i’m not a store manager anymore, so none of it is my problem.. i just have to serve the customers, tidy things up and enjoy the money..

it’s also frustrating to have a 22yr old and a 19yr old ‘training’ me.. like, they’re nice guys and it’s actually quite cute to hear them instructing me, but i was working in a dvd store when they were still video stores, wall to wall with VHS cassettes, and these lads were in highschool so newsflash boys – i KNOW how to answer a business phone and i KNOW how to clean a disc – hahaha ;p

i guess it’s more amusing than frustrating, i just sorta nod my head and go ‘oh okay, yep..’ ;p

i think i love his first album more than anything, his voice has this strange cuteness about it that he doesn’t have in any of the others.. i dunno if it’s excitement or naivety or what, but it’s cute as hell.. when he laughs during i knead you i grin from ear to ear – too. darn. adorable.

also BIG NEWS !!! mark billingham’s in the dark was released this month.. i charged into borders on the 3rd to get it but haven’t finished it yet.. usually it takes me a day or so to get thru one of his books unless i’m really trying to make it last, but i dunno, it’s GREAT but i keep expecting thorne to walk in and then i remember that he’s not IN this book so i put it down and go read a few chapters from the books that he IS in instead.. and i usually make sure i’m eating a curry when i do so, to really feel like i’m in the story.. i’m a thorne addict, and i don’t apologize for it !!

the interesting thing about in the dark is that there’s basically no likable characters in it.. i dunno if that was mark’s intention, but it feels so strange because even with all their flaws the characters from the thorne series are all pretty easy to love..

regardless, it’s still a good book, i just have to get used to my hero not coming to save the day..

UPDATE ::
it’s interesting to note that the person who took this photo has taken a great deal of offense that i find it creepy.. at first i thought she had been too lazy to put the clothes on her doll before taking snaps, but after evoking such an extreme reaction one has to wonder if there’s more to it..
i had a two day seminar over the weekend for my course including PRACTICAL ASSESSMENTS !!!!
*shudder*
it was totally scary.. we had to do our practicals in front of the group ( 8 people on saturday, 12 people on sunday ) – everyone was so nervous..
i think i was less nervous once most of the students had done theirs tho, cos it’s easy to calm yourself down if you’re in a room of calm people, but impossible when everyone is stressing out.. i passed, btw, which was good.. i did really well on sunday, actually.. not that i remember much of the assessment itself, but everyone told me afterwards that i did it really easily and quickly, and our assessor said i did most of it naturally so that was good..
so now i have two certificates hanging on my wall for communication studies ^-^

meeting fellow students was fun too.. there was an AMAZING variety of personalities there, i would’ve loved to learn more about each of them.. i think the only thing we had in common was that we were all really passionate about the course, i was asked at one point how i was going and what motivated me to keep at it and i got a little choked up when i told them how it’s the first time i’ve ever forced myself to DO something without anybody around me encouraging me to do it, and it felt good to have made a decision by myself and be sticking to it even thru the discouraging moments..

anyway, wtvr, i passed so now i’m back to bookwork and hiding in my room..

i’ve been getting some amazing swap packages over the last week or so, which is great cos to be honest even tho the previous ones i’d been getting were nice they sorta made me wonder why i was putting so much effort into the swaps that i was sending out, and i was considering dropping from the website altogether.. but now that i’ve met up with some hardcore swappers i’m feeling like i wanna keep at it – in fact i’m starting to think i need to lift the standards of what i send out some more !

psym’n took me to ikea the other day to pick out my birthday present – SO exciting !!
my birthday isn’t until september, but i think he knows how much i change my mind about what i want so if i pick it out and we buy it NOW then it’s done and he won’t end up having to race around at the last minute cos i’d have changed my mind..
anyway, i picked out a small, sensible desk and a small bookshelf.. seeing as i’m stuck in my room so much ( for reasons all who know me understand ) i wanted to create a nicer atmosphere for studying and doing crafts, so i can’t wait to get it set up !!
psym says i can’t actually put it together and use it until my birthday tho, so i’ve got about 39 sleeps until my bedroom becomes the goods..

it’s totally lame, but with all my anxiety and agoraphobia and all that dumb stuph my brain does that it shouldn’t, starbucks was one of the few places i really felt relaxed.. something to do with the warm smell of coffee beans, the sound of the milk frothing and the quiet little corners – not to mention the tastiest coffee in this one horse town !!
i’m having visions of myself sitting with pox or ange in hudsons feeling awkward and out of sorts..

i almost forgot !! i totally got the dvd of never forget – the musical based on the music of take that !!!

it is SO terrible – i LOVE it >_<;
the story is pretty predictable, but you know – it’s a musical – so that kinda goes with the territory..
i was a bit disappointed that most of the cast couldn’t actually SING the songs.. i mean, they’re pop songs, they’re actually not that hard to get in tune – i have a horrific singing voice but even i can belt out love ain’t here anymore without soundling like a dying dingo..

anyway, the main offender was the lead female, who seemed to confuse singing with shouting.. all the guys were pretty good vocally, but just a little boring – everything they sang sounded the same ( and as much as YES, pop songs do tend to all sound the same – take that are actually pretty good at giving their songs very different sounds due to having had five very unique voices and gary barlow being an extremely versatile writer.. so there )
i’m glad i didn’t play full price for it, i nabbed it on ebay for around a quarter of what the official website is charging, but i’m also glad i bought it – cos if you don’t live in the UK life tends to be a bit too lacking in new TT related stuphs..

L mentioned some likes and dislikes, so i’d like to do the same..
the joker :: i loved him and i didn’t think i would, as i’ve never been a ledger fan but it was just a brilliant performance.. it was absolutely terrifying, i think it’s the first time i’ve gone to a superhero movie and actually found myself afraid of the villain..
harvey dent :: i’m a bit disappointed that they didn’t set him up as an ongoing villain, because his story is so tragic and awful he’s the type of villain you sort of WANT to win.. harvey was what i was most excited to see, so i’m glad he didn’t disappoint as a character – i just want to see more of him..
batman :: as much as i LOVE patrick batman, his batvoice was ridiculous.. it’s the only thing i really hated about the film – it’s no wonder the joker is always laughing at him.. i think i enjoyed the bruce wayne moments more ( and not just cos you get to see patrick batman’s totally perfect face )..
gotham :: i dunno, everyone is saying how boring the city looked and how non-gothamy it was but i actually liked that the city wasn’t over stylized.. it made it feel more real, and in the night shots it still had a sorta creepy feeling..
one thing that DID piss me off was when bruce is fondling his little batblades with ungloved hands.. look i’m no superhero but even i know not to leave fingerprints of your alter ego on your tools of justice..

anyway, it’s a good film – i saw it twice in two days so it’d have to be good to sit thru something that long with only a night’s sleep in between..

i still haven’t done much more on my mask, but now that my mom has bought a new sewing machine i’m feeling inspired to get back to work on it, so will keep you posted wani..
i finally managed to get alfonso as my neighbor again in ACWW – it only took me MONTHS of restarts.. now i have to make sure i play everyday to keep him there wani..
i found an online store that will sell me the alfonso miniature for only US$2 !! HOWEVER they want US$24.50 for shipping.. okay, um, that’s a lot of shipping doolars for a figure that’s barely an inch tall.. so i think i might have to reconsider wani..
